SUMMARY
This unit of competency specifies the mandatory work health and safety training required prior to undertaking construction work. The unit requires the person to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. It covers identifying and orally reporting common construction hazards, understanding basic risk control measures, and identifying procedures for responding to potential incidents and emergencies. It also covers correctly selecting and fitting common personal protective equipment (PPE) used for construction work.

DURATION
This course commences every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.

CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and a wallet-size work health and safety card.

Replacement card (section 321 of the WHS regulation)
In the event a person has successfully completed:

  • CPCWHS1001 ‘Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’, or
  • CPCCOHS1001A ‘Work safely in the construction industry’ (previous QLD Course); and the person’s card has been declared lost, stolen, or destroyed, then the RTO may issue a replacement card upon the cardholder supplying a statement of attaining to the RTO and declaring the circumstances in which the card was lost, stolen, or destroyed
